This book and it’s writing are incredible. It left me feeling shaken and a little shocked and breathless.
Claire and Ella are sisters and best friends. Ella, the happy, creative, golden child and Claire, the older, more down-to-earth sister. On the night of her 15th birthday, Claire goes to a party thrown by her best friend and soon-to-be-runaway, Rae. Ella shows up at the party but Claire tells her to go home, because the party is too wild for her and Claire is hoping to find Rae’s brother, Grant. Ella goes heads home, but never makes it. Claire finds her sister, half-dead, the next morning. She is sent away to New York, after telling everyone that wolves attacked her sister, until Ella, now recovered, is reported missing.
The Good: This book is beautiful written. It reminded me a bit of Maggie Stiefvater’s writing style. The descriptions were incredible. And it keeps you guessing; Where’s Ella? What is wrong with Claire’s father? And the big one: Are the wolves real or a hallucination? Claire’s signs of mental illness are done well, in my option, as well.
The Not-So-Good: Sometimes, the book was a little slow. Also, there wasn’t much to the characters. But of course, since Claire had problems mentally, that could be the reason. Also, the killer of the little girl in the beginning was obvious, but it didn’t take away from the story. I think the ending could have been a little more fulfilling, as well.
I really recommend this book. I read it as fast as I could, dying to find out what happens in the end. (The book does have mental illness in it, so it could be considered a trigger to some.)
